この曲も泥沼化したベトナム戦争について歌っている。 「白ブーツ」は白人を中心としたアメリカ軍を指すが、boot には海軍の新卒兵という意味もあるので、「白人の新卒兵」という解釈も可能だ。「黄色い土地」は黄色人種が住む土地、ベトナムを指している。 言い換えるなら、「ベトナムの大地を踏み躙って行進するアメリカ軍（海軍新卒）兵士」となるだろう。
歌詞で繰り返しの部分に登場する Red はおそらく「赤・アカ」、即ち共産主義者のことだと思われる。ベトナム戦争はソ連が支援した社会主義勢力の北ベトナムと米国を中心とした資本主義勢力が支援した南ベトナムの間で戦われた内戦であったため、米軍の立場で Red といえば相手の北ベトナム軍、敵軍のことかと思われる。 敵の進軍ラッパの音が聞こえたからこちらも出て行かざるをえず、新卒兵は途方に暮れたといったニュアンスだろうか。管理人はこのように解釈した。
歌詞には銃殺刑とそれに対する反抗心の描写を始め、米軍上官と兵士、そして捕虜たちの間で行われる言動や心理をジャーナリスト的な視点から表現されている。
