政治的なプロテストソング路線に進むことを宣言したアルバムLives in the Balanceの発売から10年後の996年にリリースされたアルバム、ルッキング・イースト/Looking Eastに収録。テレビでワイドショーのように放映されるニュースは見る人の役に立つのではなく、見る人は分かったつもりになるが、ニュースで流れた内容を見て何の行動もせず、むしろメディアが思うがままに人々を洗脳するのだと歌っている。ジャクソン・ブラウン自身が若かったころ何の疑問も持たずに幸せに生きていたことを反省している。その気持ちを表現したのが10年前のFor Americaなのだが、その原因の大きな部分がマスメディアであったとの思いあって、その思いがこの曲に込められているのではなかろうか。
