イギリスのビリー・ブラッグ/Billy Bragg が City of Heroes/英雄たちの都市 でアメリカ合衆国のミネアポリス市民への　連帯を表明して間もなく、アメリカの大御所ロック歌手、ブルース・スプリングスティーン/Bruce Springsteen も新曲Streets of Minneapolis/ミネアポリス街 で連帯を示した。

2026年1月、ミネアポリスではICE(United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement/アメリカ合衆国移民・関税執行局)および国境警備隊による3件の発砲事件が相次ぎ、レネー・グッド/Renee Good と アレックス・プレッティ/Alex Pretti といういずれも市民である37歳の人物が射殺された。両者は移民ではなく、ただ「そこにいた」だけのアメリカ市民であり、事件は移民政策の名の下に肌の色や外見だけで“脅威”とみなされる構造的暴力を浮き彫りにした。これを受け、ミネソタ州内外で数千人規模の抗議デモが発生し、ICEの活動停止や制度改革を求める声が急速に広がった。

この曲はこの状況を背景に、街を歩くだけで標的にされる者たちの恐怖と孤独を描き出す。彼の伝統的テーマである“見えない人々の声”が、今回の事件では肌の色や名前だけで疑われ、銃口を向けられる現実として響く。曲中の荒涼とした街の描写は、連邦法執行官3,000人が展開し、市民の生活空間が監視と暴力に覆われたミネアポリスの空気そのものだ。
