1969年、反ベトナム戦争運動の盛り上がりの中で書かれた、ストレートな反戦ソング。 始めはTemptationsのアルバムで発表されたが､1970年に Edwin Starr がシングルとして発表、なんと、ビルボードチャートでナンバーワンに輝いた。　 Barry McGuire のEve Of Destructionと共に、世界で最も流行ったプロテストソングだと言えるでしょう。　1986年、イラン・イラク戦争真っ盛りの頃、Bruce Springsteen がこの曲をライブ盤で発表、シングルカットして、トップ10ヒットにしました。そして、今も歌いつづけています。
